Dia De Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead is a 2 day celebration of life and death that originated in Mexico. Mexican families set up beautifully decorated alters in their homes and place photos of the loved ones they have lost along with offers of favorite food and drinks among other things to celebrate the dead. Festive decorations usually consists of colorful calaveras (skulls), calacas (skeletons), papel picado (pecked paper) & decorative lanterns. These traditions are rich with cultural influence and are true to the Mexican style that doesn't lack color or substance.
